WEEK 8: The Awkward Phase

Everyone has one. For J., it was 7th grade...lanky limbs and metal braces and a futile desire for "cool clothes"... For M. it was the flat hair and oversized glasses that plagued him throughout the 9th grade. For Pacha Mama House, it is this current phase. This past week, half of the house's front face was ripped off as we attempt to restore an unattractive and questionably enclosed front porch back to its original architectual design: a narrow and open front porch that is covered by the large generous eaves of her extended roofline. Meanwhile, two new and large picture windows were framed into the front walls here. The newly exposed house front has black housewrap stapled to it and the partially open porch sits mid-demolition with fresh, wet concrete. Eww. It's temporary of course. Future plans include 6 x 6 wooden columns/posts painted bright white and a new flooring option (M. and I are in disaccord over this - he wants Saltillo tile and I want to reuse our salvaged brick). Eventually, we will put some front porch furnishings too to snazz up the place (did I just say "snazz"? Eww.) ... maybe some adirondack chairs, a bistro set, or perhaps a bench swing - by far my favorite choice. We will see! For now, we love Pacha Mama in her awkward phase - we see the hidden potential in her and hope you can too...
